He was six years old and living with his parents and five brothers: Harry (then known as Erick) and his family had settled in Appleton, Outagamie, Wisconsin, United States, by the time of the 1880 U.S. The name Houdini came from the surname of the French magician, Robert Houdin. but it's his stage name that defines him even beyond death. The family changed the spelling of their first and last names. He emigrated to the United States with his family in 1878, arriving in New York, New York, United States on board a ship named "Frisia." He was the son of Samuel Weiss and Cecilia Steiner. The famed magician Harry Houdini was born Erik Weisz on March 24, 1874, in Budapest, Austria-Hungary.
